Entry requirements
Nursing is the one programme with subject requirements as well as a mean grade. Check all four rows against your KCSE slip before you apply.
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| Mean grade | C plain |
| Biology | C plain |
| English or Kiswahili | C plain |
| Mathematics or Chemistry or Physics | C minus |
You need one of English or Kiswahili at C plain, and one of Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics at C minus — not all of them. Not sure how your slip reads? Send an enquiry or WhatsApp us the slip and we will tell you plainly.
What you'll study
Nine trimesters of four months each, taught in Nyahururu and built around supervised clinical practice — you learn on the ward, not only in the lecture room.
The required textbook list tells you the ground you cover: anatomy and physiology, midwifery, pharmacology and drug reference, child health, communicable diseases and community health.
The full unit-by-unit curriculum is TBC on this page — the Council-approved curriculum exists, and we will send it on request.
Approved by the Nursing Council of Kenya
This programme is not "pending approval". The Council assessed the college, the curriculum and every clinical site we proposed, and approved us in writing on 16 December 2025.

Approval to offer the pre-service Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing programme
“Following your submission of an intent to commence [the] preservice programme, the Nursing Council of Kenya assessed your institution as well as the proposed clinical placement sites. The curriculum was also evaluated and it met the minimum requirements. The Council is pleased to inform you that the curriculum and your institution have been approved to offer [the] preservice programme with one (1) intake of 50 students per year.”
“You are hereby required to maintain standards of Nursing and Midwifery practice as stipulated in the Standards of Nursing Education and Practice for nurses and midwives in Kenya.”
Quoted from the Council's approval letter. Names, signatures and reference numbers have been left out of this page; the original letter is held at the college office and we will show it to you there.
The clinical sites the Council approved for us
Your placements are not arranged ad hoc — these five sites were named and approved with the programme. This is where you do your rotations.
| Site | What you rotate through |
|---|---|
| Nyahururu County Referral Hospital (Level 4) main teaching hospital | Outpatient, A&E, maternal and child health / family planning, surgical, theatre and maternity |
| JM Kariuki Memorial County Referral Hospital | Outpatient, maternal and child health / family planning, paediatric, maternity, medical, surgical, theatre and A&E |
| Baari Health Centre (Level 3) | Maternal and child health / family planning, and maternity |
| Rumuruti Sub-County Hospital (Level 4) | Rural health and maternity experience |
| St Nicholas Rehabilitation and Psychiatric Hospital | Mental health and psychiatric experience |
Places are capped at 50 per year. That is the Council's approved intake, not a sales line — when the 50 are filled for an intake, they are filled.
Fees
KES 59,600per trimester — the standard fee, trimesters 3 to 8
First trimester KES 81,650. It is higher because registration, caution money (refundable), uniform and lab coat, the medical examination on admission and the Hepatitis B vaccine are all charged once, at the start. From trimester 2 the bill settles down. The final trimester is KES 75,200 because it carries the graduation and Nursing Council fees.
All figures are indicative — 2026 approved structure; confirm with the Finance Office.

Where it leads
Nursing is a registered profession in Kenya: qualified nurses practise under the Nursing Council of Kenya, and a Nursing Council Fee sits inside your fee structure for that reason.
Graduates sit the Nursing Council of Kenya licensing examination; the college presents its candidates through its NCK training approval.
